How do we take a video game character and bring them to life in a believable 3D space

Design Goal

This character had 2 forms, human and demon. I decided to do something in the middle. It would also give me an opportunity to showcase all of my skills

Process

3D

3d Models were made in Maya and extracted to Pepakura to generate paper blueprints.

Paper blueprints are then transferred to materials and glued to make the shape

Sewing

Patterns were Drafted in illustrator, then traced/cut on fabric.

Fabric's Used:

  • Cotton

  • Jersey Knit

  • Latex

  • Color Shifting tulle


Sculpting

Models were made in Maya, then patterns were Made in Pepakura

All items were hand sculpted

Materials sculpted were

  • Thermoplastic

  • Clay

  • Eva Foam

Painting

Painting was done on all the fabric pieces, Everything was blocked out with Painters tape

Props were also given base coat and then washes to give them an aged looks

Everything was painted with acrylic

Attachments

Cosplay was meant to be worn for 8 hours over 3 days

and needed to easily be taken on and off for mobility

Everything was capable of being fully disassembled


Wig

Wig was made with hairwefts and blanket stitched on to a custom mesh base that had holes for removable horns


Ponytail was also fully detachable and made with

pool noodles

Materials

Making things lightweight was crucial so most props were stuffed with tissue and most thick forms were made out of pool noodles or hollowed out eva foam

All led items were made with hand dyed thermoplastic

LED

All Leds were flat colors that were combined to make gradients


Wiring for some of the props needed connector switches so props could be disassembled
